Prior to Boeing layoffs, SnoCo unemployment climbs

Much of Boeing’s layoffs in Snohomish County haven’t yet filtered down to the unemployment lines. But the county’s jobless rate jumped to nearly 10 percent in February.

Boeing handed out the first 60-day notices to some of its Shared Services Group and Engineering, Operations and Technology department workers in late January and early February. And the company gave notices to 466 Machinists last month.

Many of those Boeing workers haven’t started collecting unemployment in the county yet, meaning the county’s jobless rate likely will rise. The county reported at 9.9 percent unemployment rate on Tuesday. Boeing is set to issue more layoff notices on Friday.
