SHORELINE — Every time Glacier Peak threatened, Shorewood catcher Sarah Edinger was there to stop them.
Edinger, a junior backstop for the Thunderbirds, came up key for Shorewood in a 5-2 Western Conference South Division softball game Tuesday afternoon at Shorewood.
The catcher covered home plate for rally-stopping force outs in the third and fourth inning, according to Glacier Peak head coach Brad Johnson.
Edinger also came up big for the Thunderbirds with an RBI double in the fourth inning to give Shorewood the lead for good.
“Edinger did well blocking the plate,” Johnson said. “She had a pretty decent day.”
Shorewood starting pitcher Olivia Jacobs scattered four hits and yielded two runs (one earned), but worked out of a jam in the third inning. Jacobs walked in Kendra Tappe for the game-tying run with two outs before striking out the next batter to stop the threat.
“They had three key outs at home plate, which each time was a little bit of a momentum shift for them,” Johnson said.
Shorewood scored two earned runs (one on Edinger’s double) and another in the second inning on Caitlin Forinash’s double. The other three runs were unearned.
“They really hit the ball, they were putting the ball in play … forcing our defense to make the plays,” Johnson said.
