The International Association of Machinists, which has roughly 24,000 members in this region at Boeing, is trying to make gains with United Airlines mechanics, according to this report. The IAM was ousted by the airline’s mechanics in 2003.
United’s active mechanics are now represented by the Teamsters. But the Machinists will collect signatures from active and furloughed mechanics to force a vote over representation.
during the Machinists strike against Boeing, Alaska Air workers walked the picket line in Seattle.
By the way, the Machinists put up a Layoff guide on their Web site for workers who have got pink slips here in the region.
SPEEA also has a similar link on its site.
