Why jeopardize our future?

It’s so sad. Thursday’s headline reads “Pink slips for 240 teachers” due to state budget cuts.

Most people have good hearts and want to do the right thing but this makes you wonder if we really have any control over what goes on in politics and big business.

We see retirement funds raped by an unknown assailant. We witness good people who are preparing our kids for the future put on the street. We watch people of need lose medical coverage because financial problems outweigh personal problems.

We agree on more than we know. Certainly our kids are the most important part of our lives. Many people’s lives revolve around them. Why would we support any measure jeopardizing their future in any way?

What is the answer? Why are things so hard to change? Why is it big business and politicians continue to make money breaking the rules and regular folks trying to live the right way usually get the shaft? Are the teacher layoffs something we’re supposed to support while this country goes through tough times?

Why aren’t the people who are responsible for the monetary problems in this country held accountable instead of bailed out? Why isn’t our new leader tougher on these issues? Why does our media tell us how to cope instead of actually motivating change with their written word?

Unless you’re a parent who blows cigarette smoke in your child’s breathing space, you probably agree with me. So what are we doing about it?
