EDMONDS — Police evacuated some people in an Edmonds neighborhood Thursday evening after receiving reports of a shot fired inside a house.

The incident began about 6:30 p.m. in the 6600 block of 170th Place SW. A woman reported that her husband, 84, was suicidal and had fired a gun inside their bedroom, Edmonds police Sgt. Don Anderson said.

The woman fled the house and waited for police.

South Snohomish County SWAT officers descended on the scene and surrounded the house. Some neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.

A police negotiator was able to persuaded the man to exit the house about 8:40 p.m.

No one was hurt. The man was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, Anderson said.
