50 YEARS AGO (1959)

New administrative staff members for Everett schools were named. Owen Forbes was named director of testing and guidance after a five-year tenure as principal at Whittier Elementary. Clarence Horensky was becoming a principal after five years of teaching at Garfield Elementary. Angelo Geary was filling a new position as supervisor of instructional supplies and textbooks.

Gene Guptill of Monroe won the two big stock car races at Sky Valley Speedway. He placed first in both the A trophy dash and the A main event. Also picking up a pair of wins was Buster Platt of Tolt, who won the B trophy dash and B main.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)

Just when you thought you’d seen it all, an 8-foot animated gorilla beckoned customers on Evergreen Way in front of A-1 Safe &Lock owned by Robert Baldridge.

The First Congregational Church of Maltby was planning a service of ordination and installation for its new pastor, the Rev. Daniel Peterson. He and his wife, Debbie, had three daughters: Mishael, Melanie and Kelly.
