Players reassigned, Hayer among them

The Tips announced the reassignment of 11 players Sunday — those who didn’t participate in the Green vs. Grey game, with the exception of Shane Harper, Dale Hunt and Rasmus Rissanen, had already been reassigned — and the biggest name on the list was Manraj Hayer.
The Tips would have liked to have the 16-year-old playmaking center on the roster this season. However, his family decided Hayer was not quite physically ready for the WHL this season. Hayer will play for the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL this season.
So what does this mean for Hayer’s future with the team? The Tips feel good about their relationship with Hayer and his family, and they expect Hayer to step straight into a significant role next season as a 17-year-old. However players who don’t sign, especially those who end up in the BCHL, are candidates to end up in the NCAA. Guess we’ll find out more in a year.
The other players who were reassigned Sunday, with their birth years, were forwards Justin Waskewitch (92), Tyler Giebel (93), Jari Erricson (94), Jordyn Boyd (94) and Josh Racek (94), defensemen Mitch Boucher (92) and Keenan Martens (93), and goaltenders James Barr (93), Stephon Fontaine (94) and Alec Rounds (94).
So 32 players remain with the team. With players beginning to head to NHL rookie camps Friday, it’s likely all of them will remain with the Tips through next weekend’s Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament. Here are the remaining players:
Forwards (18): Cameron Abney (91), Zack Dailey (89), Campbell Elynuik (92), Byron Froese (91), Shane Harper (89), Dale Hunt (90), Dan Iwanski (90), Mitchell Loose (93), Tyler Maxwell (91), Markus McCrea (92), D.Jay McGrath (92), Tyler Parker (92), Alex Poulter (89), Kellan Tochkin (91), Corey Tyrell (90), Paul Van de Velde (90), Ryan White (91), Josh Winquist (93).
Defensemen (11): Chris de la Lande (90), Radko Gudas (90), Drew McDermott (91), Gabe Minville (92), Evan Morden (93), Ryan Murray (93), Rasmus Rissanen (91), Colin Scherger (89), Paul Sohor (91), Alex Theriau (92), Nicholas Walters (94).
Goaltenders (3): Andy Desautels (94), Thomas Heemskerk (90), Kent Simpson (92).
Walters and Desautels, as 15-year-olds, are not eligible to play with the Tips this season.
