Machinists to sue Pratt & Whitney over jobs

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers plans to file a lawsuit today against Pratt &Whitney over job cuts at the jet engine maker’s Connecticut sites.
Pratt &Whitney announced yesterday that it would slash about 1,000 positions in Connecticut by 2011. Ultimately, the company will shut down one site and shift work from the other. Pratt &Whitney may move work to sites in Columbus, Georgia, Japan and Singapore.
The Machinists say that the company is breaking its labor contract and has failed to make its best effort to keep work in the state.
