Coupeville: Kite festival this weekend

The Whidbey Island Kite Festival and sport-kite competition is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Fort Casey Conference Center, 1276 S. Engle Road, adjacent to the state park.

Everett: Eat a sweet treat, feed hungry kids

Help raise money to feed hungry kids by attending the Great American Bake Sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Club at California Street and Hoyt Avenue. Proceeds from the bake sale go to the YWCA of Snohomish County.

Free English class for adult learners

A free class for beginning English speakers is offered through the South Everett Neighborhood Center. Classes are held weekly at Faith Lutheran Church, 6708 Cady Road, 6:30 to 8 p.m., beginning on Thursday through Nov. 5.

Cancer benefit walk planned for Sunday

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a fundraising event, will take place at American Legion Memorial Park on Sunday. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. There is no minimum fundraising amount. All ages are welcome.

Everett: Free job training classes

South Everett Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Center, located at 228 SW Everett Mall Way, is accepting registrations for free eight-week classes in computer skills, word processing and learning to speak English. The classes are from Oct. 12 to Dec. 10. These courses teach people with significant barriers to employment the skills to find and keep jobs.
