50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Everett Port commissioners, in a meeting continued today from last night, decided to buy the former naval reserve shipyard here under a contract with the government. They were unanimous in their action, pleasing a large delegation from the community who supported the purchase. They hoped to take control immediately so that industries interested in locating at the site could move in soon.
Five seniors who were members of the Arlington High School football team were Skip McLeod, end; David Danubio, tackle; Larry Bjorn, center; David Mills, tackle; and Dick Sass, end. The Eagles opened their home schedule this Friday against Langley.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Today was the grand opening of Family Thrift Store, 2726 Lombard Ave., in the old Goodwill building. The Volunteers of America had new and used furniture, clothing, televisions, appliances, antiques and odds and ends.
Made and grown in Washington was taking place at the Everett Mall: It was a colorful exhibition of products made and grown in Washington, including produce, wine, dairy goods, wool products and more.
