Volunteer: Food bank needs drivers

Volunteer drivers are needed at Concern for Neighbors Food Bank in Mountlake Terrace.

Volunteers drive to and from the food bank at 4700 228th St. SW and area grocery stores. They may be asked to take a Food Lifeline training course. Shifts are available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Classes: South Everett Goodwill

Free classes are available at the South Everett Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Center.

Registration for classes including English for Speakers of Other Languages, computer basics, word processing fundamentals and keyboarding are on a first-come, first-served basis at the center located on 228 SW. Everett Mall Way in Everett. The eight-week class session starts Oct. 12.

Volunteer: River salmon tour guides

Washington State University Extension and Snohomish County 4-H is seeking volunteers, ages 15 and older, interested in becoming tour guides for the annual river salmon tours in Gold Bar.

The training workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 31 at the Wallace River Hatchery, 14418 383rd Ave. SE, Gold Bar. School tours will be given Nov. 2-6. The training teaches the life story of salmon, about their habitat, the role of hatcheries, how to help restore salmon populations and how to share this information with others attending the river salmon tours. The training also includes lectures, a demonstration of hands-on spawning, a handbook and the opportunity to practice at seven different educational stations.

Those 15 years or older may apply to be a guide.

Celebrate: Granite Falls Railroad Days

Granite Falls Senior Center will host a variety of activities Saturday in recognition of the city’s annual Railroad Days celebration.

Lunch includes keilbasa and kraut, chili dogs and potato salad. It will be served beginning at 11 a.m. Twenty-five cent bingo will begin after the parade, from noon to 4 p.m.

Dinner will be served from 5 to 9 p.m. with $1 bingo beginning at 6 p.m. A silent auction will occur throughout the day until 9 p.m. at the center, 302 S Granite Avenue. Proceeds from the auction will go toward the center’s general fund.

Everyone is invited to the celebration.

Training: Help during a disaster

Snohomish County Fire District 7 is offering Community Emergency Response Team training for anyone interested in learning how they can help their community during a major disaster.

Classes are scheduled to meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening beginning Oct. 8 through Oct. 22 at the Fire District 7 Headquarters, Fire 8010 180th St. SE, Snohomish. Specific meeting times have not been determined.

The class is $30 per person. Participants must attend all classes in order to receive CERT certification. Attendance is also required for a final evaluation on Oct 24.
