BOYS BASKETBALL: Newman scored 72 points in three games: 26 in a 84-55 win over Cedar Park Christian, 27 in an 82-79 overtime loss to Interlake and 19 in a 69-60 win over Friday Harbor.
Danielle Love | Cascade
GIRLS BASKETBALL: Love achieved two double-doubles. She had 15 points and 21 rebounds in a 53-49 loss to Ferndale and 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 63-43 win over Mt. Vernon.
OLIVER DURAND | MARYSVILLE-PILCHUCK
BOYS SWIMMING: Durand swam 4A state meet qualifying times in winning the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke and swam on two winning relay teams in a 138-38 win over Squalicum.
Josh Heinzer | Lake Stevens
BOYS WRESTLING: Heinzer, the state champion at 112 pounds last season, won two bouts at 119 pounds as No. 1 (state coaches preseason poll) Lake Stevens defeated No. 2 Tahoma 36-27 and beat Rogers 44-30.
