COMMUNITY ROUNDUP: M-P grad collects postseason honors

Marysville-Pilchuck High School graduate Kalani Zoller has been named to the 2009 NCAA Division II Football Gazette All-Super Region Four second team.

Zoller, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle for Western Oregon University, finished his junior season with 26 tackles, 31/2 tackles for loss and a half sack. In addition to his regional honors, he was a first-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection.

The Wolves finished the 2009 season with a 5-5 record.

Western Oregon is located in Monmouth, Ore.

Local gymnasts shine

Led by Taylor Eastwood of Mill Creek and Kalieghe Phillips of Everett the Level 5 team from Leading Edge Gymnastics in Everett won the team title at the Washington State Championships held Dec. 5-6 in Auburn.

Eastwood finished first in the all-around in the Junior B Division with 37.100 points. She won both the vault (9.100) and floor (9.375) competitions.

Phillips won the all-around in the Senior A Division with 35.950 points. She placed second on the beam (9.100). Leading Edge captured the Level 5 team title with 110.050 points.

Also earning a first-place finish for Leading Edge was Kelsey Bassett in the Level 4 Junior D Division (37.000). She finished first on the beam (9.100) and tied for first on the bars (9.225).
