50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Heading up the officers of Everett Kiwanis this year was Dr. Edward Diamond, active for a number of years in community affairs. The local club was looking forward to another busy year in civic activities.
This year’s winner of The Herald’s man of the year in sports was Bill Kinnune of Everett. Kinnune, who was a guard for the University of Washington, was a star in the recent Rose Bowl against Wisconsin. The former Everett Seagull star thanked the man who had been his coach for 21 years, his dad — Paul Kinnune.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Bill Marchand was honored recently at a surprise retirement party at the Everett Eagles Lodge. He was owner and proprietor of Marchand Studio in Everett.
Myrna Overstreet was the new president of the Snohomish County United Way for 1985, succeeding Terry Lewis. Barbara McCarthy was head of the fundraising. Other new officers were Max Gellert, executive vice president; Larry Jelsing, vice president of agency relations; Mike Sells, vice president of labor relations; Paul E. Staley, secretary; and Carol Thorp, treasurer.
