EVERETT — Police said the man who rammed his pickup truck Monday into a Snohomish County sheriff’s patrol car in Everett during a pursuit was being sought for stealing a lighter from a convenience store and also assaulting a clerk.

The man, 46, allegedly punched the owner of a convenience store Monday morning in the 11800 block of Highway 99, according to a police affidavit filed Tuesday in Everett District Court.

The man then tried twice to run the store owner down with his pickup, police said.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies caught up with the suspect’s pickup just before 2 p.m. in downtown Everett. They twice tried to hit the man’s pickup to get him to stop before the man instead rammed the deputy’s patrol car.

The man jumped out of his pickup and surrendered. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree robbery and attempting to elude police.
