PREP ROUNDUP: Jackson boys win golf meet

Published 4:32 pm Friday, April 2, 2010

MILL CREEK — Junior Barret McGinnis shot a 2-under par 74 and no other Jackson player shot above an 83 in the Timberwolves non-conference win against Stanwood and Everett at Mill Creek Golf and Country Club.

Jackson, which ended the 18 hole, par 72 match with a team score of 386, finished 73 strokes ahead of the next closest team, Everett (459). Stanwood (476) finished third.

“One of our strengths this year is the depth of our team,” Timberwolves head coach Jim Anderson said. “Our number five man shot an 81 and our number six man shot an 83…each time out they’re capable of shooting in the 70s.”

The depth of Jackson is especially impressive, considering the team has no seniors on its’ roster. Four juniors, a sophomore and a freshman comprise the team. However, the three juniors have been around for awhile.

“I’ve had (juniors) Connor (Miele), Barret and Taylor (Pirnke) since they were freshman,” Anderson said.

Nick White led the Seagulls with a 7-over par 79, and Nick Morgenstern Was Stanwood’s top performer with a 12-over par 84.
