PREP TRACK ROUNDUP: Pangilinan leads Marysville-Pilchuck boys to victory

MARYSVILLE — In the last meet this season at Marysville-Pilchuck, it was fitting that one of the Tomahawks’ own athletes, Mark Pangilinan, came away as one of its stars.
Pangilinan placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.6 seconds), the 300 hurdles (42.5) and the 100 (11.2) dash. He also ran the first leg for Marysville-Pilchuck’s first-place 400 relay team, which finished in a time of 43.75.
The M-P facility was closed for remodeling following the Thursday Wesco North meet.
“Mark went four-for-four today,” Marysville-Pilchuck head coach Randy Davis said. “He was great today.”
On the girl’s side, Alisha Oden had a nice meet, winning the 400 in her first attempt in a neck-and-neck race with Cascade’s Denae Weigelt. Weigelt tripped at the end as she tried to lunge ahead of Oden at the finish.
“(Oden) had a good, strong day,” Davis said. “We hope to see her continue it.”
Marysville-Pilchuck also did well as a team, winning on the boys side with 68.83 points and on the girls side with 89 points. Lake Stevens finished second with 61.33 points on the boys side and Cascade third with 50.83. Rounding out the girls team scores were Lake Stevens with 64 and Cascade with 33.
Cascade’s Timothy St. Marie placed first in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 7.75 inches as well as in the discus, which he launched 127 feet even.
For Lake Stevens, Brooke Pahukoa shined brightest, winning the 100 and 300 hurdles and took home the high jump with a leap of 5-2.
