EVERETT — Even though the Archbishop Murphy boys soccer team had won four straight games heading into Tuesday night, it took a talking to by the Murphy captains at halftime to spark the frustrated Wildcats.
Murphy rose up and answered the call, scoring two goals in the second half for a 2-0 Cascade Conference win over Cedarcrest.
The win clinched a 2A District 1 playoff berth for Murphy (9-3 league, 9-4 overall). Cedarcrest fell to 7-5, 7-7.
Freshman Jalen Crisler notched his first career varsity goal from Matt Fryer’s assist in the 60th minute. Just recently, Crisler was moved from the JV squad to varsity.
“It was a good battle between both teams, that was shown with the score 0-0 in the first half,” Murphy head coach Eddie Fernandez said. “We were frustrated in the first half, and I kind of let the boys have their own talk at halftime, and we were able to put the goals away in the second half.
“The rest of the team is getting more confidence in him (Crisler),” Fernandez added. “It was a good combination play … that is something that we have been working on.”
