Pit bulls don’t deserve bad rap

Regarding the Thursday letter, “Pit bulls should be outlawed”:

The writer apparently has never been a pit bull owner or he wouldn’t be putting them down.

He is really off base about pit bulls. They are the most loving dogs you could ever own. He needs to blame the dog’s owners; they are the problem.

Any dog, no matter what breed, shouldn’t be out running free, especially if they are aggressive. Pit bulls are only aggressive if that is the way they are taught and many of them are and they do have powerful jaws.

I’ve had many breeds of dogs in my lifetime and my pit bulls have been the most gentle, loving and easiest to train and the most behaved. My pit bull plays with children and all size dogs and has never hurt any and the only thing he would do is lick you to death.

I would be more afraid of some of the little dogs. I have found them to be more likely to bite you.

If a small dog bites you, it usually never gets attention but the pit bulls always do and that is what makes so many people afraid of them.
