Arlington: Airport board appointment

Cheri Carlson has been reappointed to her volunteer post on the city’s municipal airport commission. Carlson was first appointed in 2001. Her current term ends in 2012.

Fire station moves to temporary location

City officials have leased a commercial building north of 188th Street NE on Smokey Point Boulevard to serve as the temporary west Arlington fire station.

The city plans to spend about $111,000 to remodel the 3,500 square-foot warehouse to include a 1,700 square-foot living quarters for firefighters. Crest Northwest Construction of Marysville is the contractor for the project. The city has leased the space for five years for nearly $3,000 a month.

Granite Falls: Forum planned for candidates

The Granite Falls Concerned Citizens Association is sponsoring a candidate forum Aug. 8.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Granite Falls Senior Center, 302 S. Granite Ave.

Candidates for Granite Falls mayor and the city council have been invited.

Marysville: Track meet open to all

The city’s All-Comers Track &Field Meets begin on Thursday.

The meets are open to anyone for $3 per person. All running and field events are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. each Thursday through Aug. 13 at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School stadium, 5611 108th St NE.

Anyone may enter as many track and field events as they wish. Volunteers are needed, too. Register by calling the parks office at 360-363-8400 or in person at 5:30 p.m. the day of the meet.

Stanwood: Learn how the brain works

Stanwood Library’s children’s program, “Beauty and Your Brain: The Science of Art” is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at 9701 271st St. NW.

Kids can find out if seeing is believing, or whether your mind can play tricks on you. Participants will explore the connection between the eyes and the brain and create a work of art.

Those who attend have a chance to win four passes to the Experience Music Project in Seattle.
