PREP ROUNDUP: Jackson wins battle of tennis unbeatens, tops Shorewood 7-0

SHORELINE — Often times early in a season a team looks for a game or match where it can gauge just how good it may be.

If Monday’s 7-0 victory over Shorewood is any indication for Jackson’s boys tennis team, the answer would appear to be very good.

Both Shorewood and Jackson were undefeated going into Monday’s match, but Jackson got a lift from the return of its top player, Mitch Williamson. Williamson had to get enough practices in before he could play after being on vacation with his family.

Williamson’s return allowed Jackson to go back to its normal rotation of players, and the wins kept coming.

“It’s just one of those matches where both teams are undefeated and it’s just weird watching it play out in front of you,” Jackson coach David Hutt said.

Hutt was impressed with his No. 1 doubles team of James Okubo and Everett Wang, who won their match over Shawn Kim and David Kim 6-1, 6-1.

“Those are two freshmen boys and they have played very well so far. Hopefully they continue to enjoy it,” Hutt said of Okubo and Wang.
