SNOHOMISH — The Glacier Peak’s boys basketball team continues to show the rest of the conference that it may be the class of the Wesco 3A. This time the Grizzlies did it by taking out a 4A opponent in a nonleague contest, besting Stanwood 58-47 Saturday night.
The Spartans kept it close early but Glacier Peak pulled away as the night went on.
“(Stanwood) played really hard,” Glacier Peak coach Brian Hunter said. “They are really well coached. We had our hands full.”
For the second consecutive night, point guard Tanner Southard and center Payton Pervier shared game-high honors, scoring 16 points each. Stanwood’s Sam Harris also scored 16 in the losing effort.
Pervier grabbed eight boards and had six blocks while Southard chipped in five assists.
Southard stepped up offensively for the second consecutive night after scoring a season-high 20 points Friday.
“Tanner can definitely score,” Hunter said. “He does what he feels like he needs to do that night to help the team.”
