Local rivers closing early

Fishing for steelhead and other game fish will close early in several rivers in Puget Sound and along the Strait of Juan de Fuca to protect wild steelhead, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Tuesday.

Both the Snohomish and Stillaguamish rivers will close on Feb. 1. The closure is because the 2010-2011 forecast of wild steelhead returning to the river systems is well below spawning goals.
