ABERDEEN — Firefighters broke down a door and rescued a 96-year-old woman in Aberdeen who had fallen in her kitchen and was unable to turn off her stove where a fire started.

Battalion Chief Bill Mayne told KBKW the woman was fortunate to have a monitored fire alarm. Firefighters arrived Monday night less than a minute after notification from the monitoring service.

The woman was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital.
