MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Lynnwood defeated Mountlake Terrace 3-0 Monday night in a Wesco 3A volleyball match.
Lynnwood (2-1 league, 3-1 overall) won 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17 and maintained its second-place position in the Wesco 3A standings, staying a spot behind first-place Meadowdale, which beat the Royals 3-0 earlier in the season.
Lynnwood head coach Jean Kellogg singled out outside hitter Sam Casares, who did a little bit of everything to lead the Royals to the victory.
“It was her best match of the season,” Kellogg said of Casares. “She upset their rhythm, hit the ball on both sides right on the line, got good angles. She made some key blocks and controlled the outside.”
Some of those blocks came against Terrace’s Leah Lecthenberg, who finished with seven kills.
“She (Lecthenberg) was smacking that ball down, she was the one on their team making a difference,” said Kellogg.
Jennifer Tsuji had 28 assists and seven digs for Lynnwood. Justine Kelly had 10 assists for Mountlake Terrace (1-2, 2-3)
