MARYSVILLE — Two Marysville Getchell High School students continued to recover Friday from injuries they suffered in a car accident that took the life of their friend and teammate.

Andy Vavrousek has been released from a Seattle hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Lars Kundu remained hospitalized Friday, but his condition has been upgraded to satisfactory.

The boys were injured Monday in a crash in the Getchell area. The Honda Civic they were riding in left the road and struck a tree. The Honda’s driver, Juan Mendoza, 16, died at the scene. He was a well-liked student and soccer player.

A student-led memorial and celebration of life is planned for 6 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Marysville Getchell gym.

Contributions to the Mendoza family can be made to: Juan Mendoza Memorial Account, Home Street Bank, 1238 State Avenue, Marysville, WA 98270.
