All you can eat: Recommended portion sizes might leave you hungry

A famous 1972 Alka-Seltzer commercial features a man muttering, over and over, “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing.” The holidays are a time of feasting. By some estimates, the average Thanksgiving dinner is 3,500 calories. The recommended daily intake is 2,000 calories. Even if you are a mindful eater the rest of the year, this is when overindulgence is indulged.

But what does that mean? We were shocked by supposedly proper portion sizes suggested by Food Network Kitchens, of all places — so shocked that we decided to see just how delicious these portions could be. Happy holidays!
