EVERETT — The speed of Lauren Kesterson and Kiki Harper helped Everett get past the Eagles and otherwise dominant starter Veronica Ladines in a nonleague matchup.

Ladines had 11 strikeouts and gave up just three hits.

Kesterson and Harper led off the game with a pair of singles and C.J. Shaver knocked them in with a two-out single to right field.

“Their one and two hitters are extremely fast,” said Arlington head coach Lonnie Hicks. “They got a slap hit over the third baseman’s head … (Harper) bunted. They are so (darn) fast you can’t even play them. A base hit two batters later scored both.”

Everett’s other run came in the third when Harper scored on an error after getting a single and stealing second and third.

Brittney Bouvard had two hits for Arlington.

“It was a hard played game,” said Hicks. “They got a couple of flares with runners on and we just couldn’t do anything about it.”
