LAKE STEVENS — The Marysville Pilchuck softball team is sick of playing at Lake Stevens High School.
For the second time this season, the Tomahawks failed to score a run on the Vikings’ home field as Lake Stevens defeated the Tomahawks 3-0.
“There’s something about playing up in Lake Stevens,” said Aaron Zachry, the Tomahawks’ head coach. “We’re usually a pretty good hitting team but up there. I don’t know. I don’t have a good answer for it.”
The game was supposed to be played at Marysville Pilchuck, but was moved to Lake Stevens because the field was flooded after rain showers. The Tomahawks have gotten seven combined hits and zero runs in two games at Lake Stevens. Half of MP’s four losses have come against the Vikings.
On Wednesday Lake Stevens got on the board early, with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the first inning by Savannah Fortney (2-for-4). Amy Browder added a two-run home run in the third inning for the Vikings.
With games coming up against Arlington and Snohomish, the first and third teams in the Wesco North standings respectively, Zachry thinks his team overlooked the 6-12 Vikings. The loss kept MP from clinching a district playoff berth and gave the Tomahawks’ coach a goal for the rest of the season.
“We had trouble offensively. We couldn’t get it going,” Zachry said. “…We still have some work to do. We need to get refocused and finish strong.”
