Prep boys tennis: Wesco 3A North Division Tournament (Day 1)

STANWOOD — Jonathan Wolf of Stanwood and Charles Southard of Oak Harbor — the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively — advanced to the singles semifinals on the first day of the North Division Wesco 3A boys tennis tournament played on Tuesday.

Wolf (16-1) advanced to the tournament’s semifinals by defeating Ferndale’s Chase Olsen in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Wolf’s semifinal opponent will be Oak Harbor’s David Kusnick, who defeated Ryan Clausen of Marysville Getchell earlier in the day 6-3, 6-2. The other boys semifinal match will be Southard going up against Everett’s Ulises Acevedes.

In doubles action, the No. 1-seeded team of Eric Saekow and Jonathan Spores advanced to the tournaments final four by defeating Everett’s Cal Knapp and Hayden Smith 6-4, 6-0. Saekow-Spores faces Marysville Getchell’s Ben Rumsey and CJ Gonzalez. in the other semifinal matchup the No. 2 seed, Everett’s Eric Allen and Luong Hau, face Trevor Koehn and Taylor Walton of Ferndale.
