One Terrible Teen takes off

EVERETT — It’s in the air.

The 11th 787 Dreamliner built by Boeing is in the air in a pre-delivery test flight. The plane’s customer is Korean Air, which will use it as a private business jet, according to FlightRadar24 and the blog All Things 787.

The airplane is one of several early production 787s that Boeing has struggled to sell, earning them the nickname the Terrible Teens. The planes have required extensive post-factory rework.

Boeing hopes to sell three or four this year and again next year. The company had planned to sell a few in 2014, but the buyers backed out.

Korean Air’s plane — N507BJ — took off from Paine Field at about 8:10 a.m. Thursday. It is scheduled to fly to Moses Lake in Central Washington.
