Boeing South Carolina workers to vote on joining union in April

Shopfloor workers at Boeing’s South Carolina facilities will vote April 22 on whether to join the union which represents their counterparts around metro Puget Sound, reports the Charleston Post &Courier.

The company opposes the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) organizing its South Carolina plant, where it assembles some 787 Dreamliners.

On Tuesday, the National Labor Relations Board announced the election date. The IAM filed a petition last week to hold the secret-ballot election.

More than 3,000 Boeing workers are eligible, writes David Wren, who covers Boeing for the Post &Courier.

They include “full-time and regular part-time production and maintenance workers at Boeing’s Dreamliner facility as well as those at the company’s Interiors Responsibility Center and the newly opened Propulsion South Carolina plant,” he writes.
