TUMWATER — The Department of Labor and Industry has cited and fined contractors for workplace safety hazards related to a Bonney Lake construction accident that killed a family.
The state agency said Monday that all the contractors had workers on site April 13 when Josh and Vanessa Ellis and their 8-month-old son Hudson drove under a Highway 410 overpass. A concrete slab from a structure under demolition fell and crushed their pickup truck, killing all of them.
Labor and Industry assistant director Anne Soiza says a demolition plan was not provided for the project.
The agency fined Staton Companies of Eugene, Oregon, $58,800 for exposing workers to danger.
Hamilton Construction of Springfield, Oregon, was fined $14,700. WHH Nisqually Federal Services of Tacoma was fined $8,400 and Highmark Concrete Contractors of Buckley was fined $4,900.
