“Her First Basket”: Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts, in partnership with the Tulalip Tribes’ Lushootseed Language Department, will host a free cultural event at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Red Curtain Arts Center, 1410 Grove St., Marysville. Maria Martin of the Tribes’ language department will share the legend of “Her First Basket” in Lushootseed and English, accompanied by tribal illustrations and artwork. Following the storytelling session, the audience will be taught some basic weaving skills, using cedar strips to create a keepsake medallion. The presentation is appropriate for all ages. Cascadia Art Museum: The new museum, located at 190 Sunset Ave., Edmonds, currently shows works featured in the Northwest Watercolor Society’s new book celebrating its 75th anniversary. Sacredness” is the next show at Hibulb and it features the work of Matika Wilbur and her photographic Project 562. Wilbur, of the Swinomish and Tulalip tribes, is crisscrossing the nation photographing people in each of the federally recognized tribes.
