Penny Creek school zone beacon finally working again

It took over a year, but a flashing beacon reminding drivers of school-zone speeds near Penny Creek Elementary in south Everett is finally working again.
Reader Jeannette Geyer first reported the problem in spring 2015 and has kept track of the issue since.
The Washington State Department of Transportation controls the warning signal. After unexpected delays, it worked with the Snohomish County PUD on fixes. The beacon was flashing again on Sept. 7 — the first day of classes.
While the beacon — a warning device — wasn’t flashing, the school-zone rules for reduced speed still were in effect.
