STANWOOD — A fatal crash between a train and a farm truck near Stanwood in September has been ruled an accident.
The driver, Jesus Torres-Aranda, failed to heed a stop sign and a railroad crossing sign, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, but detectives believe he was attempting to drive across the tracks and failed to yield to the southbound freight train.
Torres-Aranda, 56, of Mount Vernon, was killed. His passenger, an unidentified man, suffered a broken leg and was taken to a Seattle hospital. An update on his condition was not available.
The crash was reported around 6:15 p.m. Sept. 27. It happened near the intersection of 92nd Avenue NW and Pioneer Highway north of town.
