Front Porch: Event on Tuesday in Darrington to benefit food bank

Food bank event
Join Santa downtown in Darrington and help the food bank at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Santa and Mrs. Claus will ride through town on a fire engine accepting donations for the food bank and handing out candy canes to every child and each person who donates. This is the town’s first Cans to Canes event. It is free and open to all. A bonfire, hot cocoa and photos with Santa follow at the 4 Corners Cafe.
Homeless memorial: Snohomish County plans to host a memorial in honor of those who were homeless and have passed away this year. A special tribute will be made to veterans. The memorial is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at 3000 Rockefeller Ave. in Everett. A free naloxone training also will be held at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.
Menorah lighting: The Chabad Jewish Center of Snohomish County plans a public menorah lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Dec. 26 at Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave. W. The kid-friendly event features a 9-foot menorah, a fire show, face-painting and doughnuts. The kindling of the menorah is part of the celebration of Chanukah. As many as 50 people are expected to attend. Similar public events are planned around the world as part of an effort to promote good over evil, freedom over oppression and light over darkness, according to a news release.
