GOLD BAR — A fatal fire in Gold Bar on March 20 remains under investigation.

The name of the man who died had not been made public as of Wednesday. He was described as being in his 60s.

The fire broke out about 9 p.m. on May Creek Road east of town. When crews arrived, there were too many flames to attempt a rescue.

“It was a very windy night that added to the rapid spread of fire,” Gold Bar Fire Chief Eric Andrews said. “There were no hydrants close by so we had to truck in water, which is always a complication.”

The house, which was built in 1994, was destroyed. The property damage was estimated at $200,000, Deputy Fire Marshal Dan Lorentzen said. The cause has not been determined, and interviews continue.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office also is conducting a death investigation.
