SULTAN — A man was killed Sunday after being struck by a train east of Sultan.

The man apparently jumped in front of the train as it rounded a corner, Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. John Flood said.

It happened about 11:55 a.m. along Reese Road near the Wallace River. The westbound train was hauling vehicles, said Gus Melonas, a spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe. There is not a crossing at that location, he said.

At least five trains were stopped during the investigation. The tracks were expected to re-open by mid-afternoon.
