EVERETT — Toy and collectibles maker Funko announced Friday that it will hold a grand opening for its new headquarters store in Everett on Aug. 18.
This will be the first opportunity for fans of the company — called Funatics — to see the new location being built in the old Bon Marche building in downtown Everett.
“You’ll walk through the world of Funko like never before — among the figures you already know and love, you’ll also find brand new products, unique activities, and special surprises!” the company said in a posting on its blog.
The festivities include food trucks, giveaways and photo opportunities. Funko CEO Brian Mariotti will also be on hand for a signing.
Funko has a block of hotel rooms held at the Marriott Courtyard and urges fans to soon reserve a room.
The company makes vinyl figurines of pop culture characters such as Superman, Batman and Spider-Man and also makes apparel, home decor and stuff animals. Its products line the walls of big-box stores and comic book shops.
Funko has been headquartered at 1202 Shuksan Way for more than three years. In December, the company announced that it was moving its corporate offices to downtown Everett into what’s now called the Port Gardner Building at 2802 Wetmore Ave., which was most recently housed the now-defunct Trinity Lutheran College.
Contractors are remodeling the 90,000-square-foot space, which is expected to accommodate 300 employees in art, marketing, sales, finance, human resources and other departments. The company has already moved employees into those offices.
The 6,000-square-foot store flagship store will be a place for the loyal followers of the brand to explore.
Funko says people can keep an eye on its Twitter account @OriginalFunko for further updates.
