PASCO — Johnny Slater, the Mariners 28th-round pick out of Michigan in this year’s draft, marked his professional debut with a home run that helped the Everett AquaSox stave off a late rally by the Tri-City Dust Devils in a 4-3 win Saturday at Gesa Stadium.
Slater’s solo shot in the top of the seventh gave the Sox a 4-1 lead, which turned into a 4-3 lead after Tri-City scored twice in the bottom of the frame.
Wyatt Mills, the Mariners’ third-round pick out of Gonzaga, fanned two in the ninth for his first professional save.
