Eat pancakes at Aquafest

Lake Stevens firefighters plan their annual pancake breakfast as part of Aquafest. It runs from 6 a.m. to noon July 29 and 30. The meal includes pancakes, ham and eggs. Donations are suggested. Proceeds are used for community service projects.

Back-to-school camp

St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Marysville offers a free back-to-school summer camp for students entering second and third grades. This year’s camp meets 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 31 to Aug. 3 ad Aug. 7-10. Certified teachers and church volunteers will offer lessons in science, math, reading, music and more. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

Genealogy conference returns

The Northwest Genealogy Conference returns to Arlington, Aug. 16-19 at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, presented by the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society. There will be speakers and classes, for novices to advanced family historians. Registration ranges from $70 to $160.

Raise money for dogs

Auction Fore the Mutts, a fundraiser for Silvana-based nonprofit Save-A-Mutt, is set for 4 p.m. Aug. 13 at Cedarcrest Golf Course, 6810 84th St. NE, Marysville. Silent and live auctions will be held. Tickets are $20 and include a taco bar dinner. Children are welcome, and those younger than 10 can come for free. Dogs are not allowed at the event.

RAD group for those with disabilities

RAD (Rising Above Disabilities) is a peer support group for youth ages 14 to 24 who identify as having a disability or learning disorder. The next meeting is 5-7 p.m. July 31 at 502 State Ave., Marysville. Snacks are provided. The group is offered through the Center for Independence.

OPPORTUNITY

Free window locks

Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens still has window locks to distribute. The locks are used to make homes safer for infants and small children, who can get seriously injured from a window fall, even from the first floor. Screens will not support a child’s weight. Such falls are more common in the warmer months.
