Barbara Davis, a driver for Mercy Transportation of Everett, was named the 2017 Paratransit and Contracting Driver of the Year by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association. She accepted the award at an Oct. 10 ceremony in Denver.

Davis began her driving career in the U.S. Army as an ambulance driver and medic. After leaving the Army with commendations, including the Expert Field Medical Badge, she returned to civilian life, eventually landing as a driver again.

“I’m a good listener and I let passengers talk,” Davis said. “I also try to give them a nice ride to make them comfortable. I love when someone pats my hand or face and tells me how much they’ve enjoyed their ride. Some people just need a hug.”
