Community roundup: Stanwood youth football 3rd at nationals

The Stanwood Youth Football Bantams returned from the Pro Football Hall of Fame National Youth Championships with their heads held high.
The 12-year-old team went 2-1 in its three games at the tournament, which took place Friday through Sunday in Canton, Ohio.
Stanwood won its first game Friday, beating the Eastern Jr. Vikings from Voorhees, New Jersey, 13-6. Later in the day, Stanwood fell to the Hawaii Crusaders from west Oahu 32-0 in a semifinal matchup. Stanwood bounced back in its consolation game Saturday, knocking off the Monterrey Football Club from Mexico 30-13.
Stanwood qualified for the tournament with its performance at the Bay Area Regionals on Dec. 1-3 in Santa Rosa, California.
Rising Stars gymnasts earn medals
Several members of Marysville’s Rising Stars Gymnastics’ Junior Olympic optional girls team came home with medals from the Holiday Express meet held Dec. 8-10 in Kent.
In Level 9 Senior B, Kyliann Hendrickson tied for first on floor exercise (9.400) and placed second on the vault (9.250) and the uneven bars (score not available). In Level 8 Junior C, Cienna Navarro placed second in the all-around (35.525) and second on floor (9.400). In Level 6 Junior B, Summer Hendrickson took first on the uneven bars (9.300), third on the vault (8.800) and third in the all-around (35.675). In Level 6 Senior B, Tabatha Holm took second on the vault (8.900) and third in the all-around (34.800), and Ellie Miles won the balance beam (9.350).
EdCC’s Walton earns MVP honors
Zach Walton of the Edmonds Community College men’s basketball team was named the MVP of the Edmonds Crossover Tournament held Friday through Sunday at Edmonds CC. Walton, a sophomore forward, averaged 23.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 blocks as the Tritons swept their three round-robin games.
Meanwhile, both the Edmonds and Everett men were ranked in the initial Northwest Athletic Conference Coaches Poll, with Everett coming in at No. 4 and Edmonds tied for No. 5. Edmonds is currently 9-1. Everett is 10-2.
