US 2 trestle near Everett reopened after truck-trailer crash

EVERETT — Evening commuters had a close call on Thursday.
A dump truck hauling a trailer crashed on the U.S. 2 trestle in the afternoon, blocking the eastbound lanes. In the past, trestle crashes have diverted thousands of drivers and caused gridlock, not only along I-5 but throughout Everett, Marysville and surrounding communities.
On Thursday, the bridge over the Snohomish River lowlands was re-opened before the workday ended.
The crash happened around 12:45 p.m. just west of the exit for Homeacres Road, Axtman said. The dump truck was hauling an excavator when it jackknifed.
No one was injured.
Information about what led to the crash was not immediately available.
The State Patrol allowed trestle drivers who were caught in the snarl to navigate around the wreck on the shoulder, Axtman said. The eastbound lanes were then closed so that crews could begin work to remove the truck.
With the rig weighing more than 25,000 pounds, Axtman predicted it was “going to take a bit.”
It did.
A sweeper was called to clean up spilled fuel and mud from the crash. A bridge inspector also was asked to take a look at the trestle. The wreck did not cause damage to the bridge.
The State Patrol opened the lanes to traffic around 2:30 p.m.
