Construction to start on housing project
A groundbreaking is scheduled for the low-barrier housing project at 6107 Berkshire Drive. The housing, aimed primarily at the homeless, is a partnership between the city of Everett, Catholic Housing Services and Catholic Community Services.
The event is set for 10 a.m. Jan. 23 at the former city property. Mayor Cassie Franklin is among the expected speakers.
Construction could wrap up in 2019. The city has called the site “Safe Streets Supportive Housing.” Catholic Housing Services is likely to choose a new name.

Free music at library
The Edmonds Arts Commission, Edmonds Library and Friends of the Edmonds Library’s free admission music series, “Music at the Library,” continues at 6:30 p.m. Thursday with musicians from Pilgrim Media Services and Puget Sound Productions performing music and enlightening the audience with information regarding all phases of the recording process, production, promotion and live performance.
The event is held in the Edmonds Plaza Room above the library, at 650 Main St.

All about beavers
Watch the IMAX movie “Beavers” and learn more about the animal’s habits, habitat requirements and see a dam on North Creek, 7 p.m. Friday at the Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Cost is $5 for Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 for nonmembers. Reservations required.

Sew Thoughtful work party
This month’s charitable sewing project by the Snohomish County Clothing and Textile Advisors will be pajamas for young children served at Safe Place, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave. W, Lynnwood. Bring your machine and other sewing supplies, and your own lunch. Kits provided.

Donate glasses, hearing aids
Lions Clubs collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids. Donations may be made at Everett Public Library branches, the PUD main office and at most opticians and eye doctors.

OPPORTUNITY
Reading Challenge in Everett
The Everett Public Library holds monthly Reading Challenges with participants entered to win prizes. January’s challenge is to read a book by a Washington state author. In February, the goal is to read a Walt Longmire book by Everett Reads author Craig Johnson, who will be featured at a public event.
