The Friends of the Arlington Library’s book sale runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. This month’s theme is “Romance,” and there will be baked goods, jewelry and other Valentine’s gifts for sale. The library is at 135 N Washington Ave.

Ban tree spraying?
Snohomish County Community Rights and the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund are working on an initiative effort to ban pesticide spraying on industrial tree plantations in Snohomish County. Three meetings are planned: 6 p.m. Feb. 27 in the meeting room at the Monroe Library, 1070 Village Way; 6 p.m. Feb. 28 in the large meeting room at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St.; and 6 p.m. March 1 in the large meeting room at the Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W).

Chowder cook-off
The Edmonds Clam Chowder Cook-Off returns Feb. 24, as restaurants vie for your vote. The event is set for noon to 3 p.m. at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 326 Admiral Way. Proceeds help the Edmonds Chamber produce the Fourth of July celebration. Tickets are $10, or $15 for early entry.

JUST FOR YOUTH
DIY mini pom-pom rugs
Students ages 10-18 are invited to the Sultan Library at 4 p.m. Tuesday to make mini pom-pom rugs. Supplies and snacks will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own favorite yarn colors. Space is limited and is first-come, first-served. The library is at 319 Main St.

Make a flashy — literally — Valentine card with some simple paper circuitry, 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW. Space is limited and registration is required. For ages 11-16.

HEADS UP
Meeting change for fly fishers
The Olympic Fly Fishers of Edmonds will hold its monthly meeting in February at 6 p.m. Friday to accommodate Valentine’s Day. The dinner meeting will be held at the usual location, at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. Guest speaker is Molly Semenik, owner of Tie the Knot Fishing, a master certified casting instructor and author of “25 Off-the-Beaten Path Montana Fly Fishing Streams.” There also will be fishing reports and a raffle. Guests are welcome.

Gas main work on 236th Street SW
Mountlake Terrace warns of lane closures on 236th Street SW, weekdays starting this week, as Puget Sound Energy upgrades the gas main from I-5 to 56th Avenue W. One segment of work will require closing the intersection at 56th Avenue W; a detour will be posted. The project is scheduled to come before the city reconstructs the street surface for its “Main Street” project.
