Make a Blanket Day is Saturday

Project Linus’ annual Make-a-Blanket Day event is set for noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Parish Hall, 330 Union Ave., Snohomish.

Help make quilts and blankets to be donated to kids who have experienced traumatic life events in Snohomish County. Materials and equipment will be provided. No experience required, but sewers are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine.

Come for an hour or the day. Snacks and door prizes, too. The goal is to make 100 blankets. Pre-made blankets also are welcome.

Celebrate Sky Valley folks

The 20th annual Sky Valley Community Awards Celebration is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at Sultan High School, 13715 310th Ave. SE. Once a year all the civic groups get together to celebrate the people in their organizations who have made a big difference to them and to the community.

The program includes a slideshow, potluck dinner and social time, followed by an awards celebration.

The Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce sponsors the free event with the help of volunteers.

Bear dog at Stream Center

Learn “All About Bears,” 1 p.m. Saturday at the Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Learn about bears and see a Karelian bear dog in action. Cost is $5 Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 nonmembers. Reservations required.

Town halls in Sultan, Arlington

A Town Hall meeting hosted by Sen. Keith Wagoner, R-Sedro-Woolley, and Rep. Carolyn Eslick, R-Sultan, will be held 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Sultan City Hall, 319 Main St., Suite 200. The lawmakers also will host a Town Hall with Rep. Dan Kristiansen, R-Snohomish, 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday in Hadley Hall at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

DNA talk

“Maternal and Paternal Lines: Using Y-DNA and mtDNA in Genealogy” is set for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave. The Snohomish Genealogy Workgroup welcomes Mary Kozy as guest speaker. Drop in and join the workgroup or just stay for the presentation.

Beat the bearded Brackett

The Edmonds Chamber’s annual Beat Brackett 5k is open for registration. The event also includes a Baby Brackett 1k for families. Don a fake beard and dash for the finish line. Registration for the July 4 event is $25 to $30 per adult racer, or $15 per family for the shorter event. Proceeds help put on the community Fourth of July celebration.

HEADS UP

Review Everett zoning

An updated portion of the city of Everett’s proposed Metro Everett zoning plan for the downtown area is available for comment. The planning commission has scheduled public meetings on the topic for Feb. 20, March 6 and March 20. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m.
