Weight loss group open house planned
The Arlington TOPS Club celebrates its 50th anniversary with an open house at 10 a.m. March 23 at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE. Former members are invited to attend, along with members of other weight loss clubs or those interested in learning more.

Skykomish River Park replacement OK’d
The Monroe City Council authorized Mayor Geoffrey Thomas to purchase new playground equipment for Skykomish River Park at its meeting March 6. The new playground is planned to replace the 25-year-old equipment there now. It is unknown when the playground will open, but the city is aiming for the summer, Parks Director Mike Farrell said.

Learn about new Nordic museum
Erik Pihl from the Nordic Heritage Museum will talk about the museum’s new building at the next meeting of the Daughters of Norway Thelma Lodge 26. The program is set for 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Normanna Lodge, 2725 Oakes Ave., Everett.
The new museum is slated to open in May. It has been 15 years in the making, under construction for the past two years, and is located on the Ballard working waterfront.

Pancake breakfasts set for this weekend
The Monroe Community Senior Center has new hours for its monthly pancake breakfast. The next breakfast is 8-10 a.m. Saturday. The senior center is at 276 Sky River Parkway. Enjoy pancakes, French toast, eggs, ham or sausage, beverages. Cost is $5, $3 younger than 12.
Other breakfasts this weekend:
Bothell: 8-11 a.m. Saturday at the Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E Riverside Drive. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee or tea, and orange juice. Cost is $5.
Lake Stevens: A Norwegian Pancake Breakfast is served 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 117th Ave. NE. Cost is $6; children younger than 4 are free.

Stanwood Area Historical Society’s next “Hors D’oeuvres & History” program focuses on the life of Frederick Pilkington, 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood.
Pilkington was a World War II prisoner of war. After the war, he pursued an art career in New York before moving to Camano Island in 1987, where he continued his work and was involved in the local arts scene. He died at age 90 in 2013.
Program admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Train for bank jobs
YWCA’s BankWork$ program is offered in Lynnwood starting April 2. The free bank career training program will be held over eight weeks. Participants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, have basic computer and English skills, and pass a background check. The deadline to apply is March 26.
