All about courthouse dogs
Learn how dogs are used to provide emotional support to people during legal proceedings at the next meeting of the Friends of the Edmonds Library, 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the upstairs Plaza Room at the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St. Free admission.
The presentation will be led by Sheryl Speight of the Courthouse Dogs Foundation, which provides assistance dogs at Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center in Everett and the Snohomish County prosecutor’s office, among many other locations.

Catapults clash in Mukilteo
Elementary age students can learn about combining simple machines into compound machines at “Clash of the Catapult,” 3 p.m. Friday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Kids will create and customize catapults and test their skills with a final pom-pom battle.

Daffodil Festival coming up
The Bonhoeffer Botanical Gardens Daffodil Festival runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and March 31, next to Freeborn Church just east of I-5 at exit 215 in Stanwood. Take in thousands of blooms, peruse art vendors and purchase baked goods. There also will be a raffle, children’s art show and more.
A free pancake breakfast 10 a.m. to noon both days; a soup lunch, noon to 2 p.m. March 31; and an Easter egg hunt 11:30 a.m. March 31. All free.

WAYS TO HELP
Animal foster care
The Everett Animal Shelter holds a training session, for volunteers willing to serve on its foster team, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the shelter, 333 Smith Island Road. Learn about what’s involved. No sign-up required; just show up. Another training is set for 11:30 a.m. April 28.

Volunteer in Mill Creek
Five Mill Creek community groups will host an event in April where locals can learn about volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved. The event is set for 4 to 7 p.m. April 18 at Arena Sports, 13500 Bothell-Everett Highway. The local Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions clubs will be on hand, along with the Mill Creek Business Association and the city of Mill Creek.
Food and beverages will be provided. There also will be raffle prizes.

Parkinson’s movement class
A movement and dance class to help Parkinson’s patients get control of their movement again is 2 p.m. Thursdays at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. Classes are $10 members, $12 non-members.
